Mr. Figg informs me that in his
opinion the present First Assistant (Mr. C. V. Jeffries)
will by the time the new Director succeeds to his office,
have become fully competent and qualified for promotion to
the post of Chief Assistant, but the question of the
appointment of a Chief Assistant can be considered when
the date of Hr. Figg's retirement is settled.
